According to legend, the French explorer La Salle gave the Pomme de Terre River it's
name when he crossed the Ozarks in 1682. The phrase "pomme de terre" is French for "apple of the earth." Pomme de Terre
lies in the rugged, tree covered hills of the Missouri Ozarks. With 7,820 acres of clear water and 113 miles of shoreline,
the lake has become one of the most popular outdoor recreation retreats.
The clear water of Pomme de Terre Lake and the rolling Ozark hills provide an excellent
setting for camping, fishing and almost any outdoor activities. Campers have a choice of 9 public areas, ranging from primative
camping at Pittsburg Park, electrical hook ups at Wheatland, Lightfoot, Nemo, Outlet, Damsite, Quary Point, and State Park
areas. Swimming areas are located at Nemo Landing, Wheatland and State Park areas, which are the only permitted designated
areas. Picinic areas are located in all public areas of Pomme de Terre Lake. There are marinas located at Lightfoot Landing,
Nemo Landing, Quarry Point and Pittsburg, which offer many services, including watercraft rentals.
